UC Davis beats San Diego 49-17 behind Treynor Cleeland’s 5 TD passes


SAN DIEGO (AP) — Treynor Cleeland threw five touchdown passes to lead UC Davis to a 49-17 victory over San Diego on Saturday night.

Cleeland completed 22 of 31 passes for 294 yards. Samuel Gbatu Jr. caught a pair of touchdown passes and finished with nine receptions for 129 yards. Cleeland connected with eight other receivers, including three for scores.

Matteo Perez added a 79-yard touchdown run and finished with 123 yards rushing on nine carries for UC Davis (2-0). Jordan Fisher carried the ball 12 times for 64 yards with a touchdown.

The Aggies scored 28 points in the second quarter for a 28-7 halftime lead. Perez’s long TD run made it 42-7 midway through the third quarter.

Dom Nankil was 16-of-31 passing for 177 yards and threw a touchdown pass and two interceptions for San Diego in its season opener.

UC Davis, No. 7 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll, has won eight straight in the series.
