Marco MacLeod has resigned from cabinet.
The Pictou West MLA, who has been Nova Scotia’s energy minister since May 27, has faced scrutiny since music he recorded under the name Meadowville came to light, containing misogynistic language and references to drug use.
In mid-August, MacLeod apologized for the lyrics he wrote and recorded more than a decade ago. On Sept. 2, MacLeod resigned from cabinet and released a statement on Facebook.
“The past couple of weeks have had a significant impact on me, as I’ve met with women’s groups and individuals who have taken the time to share their experiences and perspectives,” he said.

The premier says he has no plans at this time to appoint another energy minister
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston has once again taken up the mantle of energy minister, just a few months after giving the portfolio to Marco MacLeod.
Houston said he has no plans to appoint someone else to replace MacLeod, who resigned Wednesday.
“It’s a file that I know well, and it’s a file that I’ve been close to,” Houston said to reporters Thursday. “So we’ll just continue to work on it.”
