Bunnie XO is opening up about her desire to become a mom later in life.
The podcaster and bestselling author has spoken candidly over the years about wanting to have a child, previously sharing in 2024 that she and now-estranged husband Jelly Roll had started their IVF journey. But in May, the singer filed for divorce from Bunnie XO, ahead of their 10-year anniversary.
Even though the two are no longer together, Bunnie XO told Jenna Bush Hager on the latest episode of the TODAY co-host’s “Open Book” podcast that she hasn’t given up on her dream and has been inspired by another celebrity who had her first child in her 40s.
When Jenna asked if Bunnie XO, 46, still wants to have a baby after her public and difficult breakup, she swiftly replied, “Yes!”
“You know who inspired me a lot more too is freaking Cameron Diaz,” she said. “She just had her third child at like 53!”
Bunnie XO pointed out that Diaz welcomed her first child with husband Benji Madden when she was 47.
“I think that’s so inspiring, and I feel like it gives you a purpose later on in life to live for,” Bunnie XO explained. “So yeah…I will still have a baby.”
Bunnie was a stepmom to Jelly Roll’s two children from previous relationships: 18-year-old daughter Bailee Ann DeFord and 10-year-old son Noah Buddy DeFord.
She told Jenna that as she enters this new chapter, she will likely focus on protecting her privacy. She still plans to be open and honest with her fans while also setting boundaries.
“I just feel like I need to keep it close to my chest, especially right now, because everybody just wants to pin like the craziest stuff on me,” she added. “But it’s still a dream.”
Previously, the “Dumb Blonde” podcast host spoke with Jenna about life post-divorce and raising a child during her appearance on TODAY with Jenna and Sheinelle Aug. 20.
She told Jenna and Sheinelle Jones that she is viewing her split from Jelly Roll with a glass half full perspective.
“I know when something like that that’s deeply personal happens, it’s beautifully tragic, but at the same time there’s always a silver lining, there’s always something better to look forward to,” she shared. “There’s so much more to talk about with me especially, and with women, than their past lovers and people in their lives.”
While Bunnie XO said on the now-deleted June 18 episode of her podcast that she and Jelly Roll will co-parent together, she revealed to Jenna and Sheinelle during her Aug. appearance that she’s not sure if he will be included in her future plans.
She added that she will document her journey to motherhood in her next book.
“I can’t wait for you guys to read about it because it’s been one hell of a journey, let me tell you,” she said.
