‘Game of Thrones’ Creator George R.R. Martin Confirms Play ‘The Mad King’ Will Transfer to London

George R.R. Martin has confirmed “Game of Thrones” play “The Mad King” is set to transfer to London.

“I had a splendid time in Stratford upon Avon for the premier of Duncan Macmillan and Dominic Cooke’s epic new stage production of ‘Game of Thrones: The Mad King,’” Martin wrote on his website. “And furthermore I’m thrilled to announce that the production will be moving on to London to share the experience with a wider audience. It promises to be an exhilarating journey.”

Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and HBO, “The Mad King” debuted in July at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford to standing ovations after cancelling the first week of previews due to technical difficulties. Its six-week run, which was almost entirely sold out, ends Friday.

The show was adapted by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Dominic Cooke with the “Game of Thrones” creator serving as exec producer.

The theater, which is two hours outside of London, was transformed for the production thanks to 4,000 hours of company and 11 external engineering companies under the watchful eye of set designer Chloe Lamford.

No details have been revealed about where in London the production will land – or when – but fans, some of whom travelled from abroad for the Stratford run, are sure to be thrilled by the prospect.
