Julia Louis-Dreyfus was juggling a whole lot while filming hit sitcom “Seinfeld.”
The comedian, who played Elaine on the show, opened up about what it was like to have kids while filming the nine-season NBC hit during a recent episode of podcast “Friends Keep Secrets.” Louis-Dreyfus revealed that her children often came to work with her.
“I had a nursery,” Dreyfus, 65, told hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and his wife Kristin Batalucco during the Sept. 1 podcast episode. “I had a nursery right next to my dressing room.”
Louis-Dreyfus has two sons with husband Brad Hall. Her eldest, Henry Hall, was born in 1992 while her younger son, Charlie Hall, was born in 1997.
“Seinfeld,” which also starred Jerry Seinfeld, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander, aired from 1989 to 1998. Louis-Dreyfus said on the podcast that raising children at the height of the show’s fame was no walk in the park.
“It was really hard,” Louis-Dreyfus said. “I’m not even sure if it was the right thing to do.”
Though Louis-Dreyfus found parenthood challenging at the time, she said she enjoyed the experience immensely.
“I wish I had one more, actually!” she told the hosts.
During the podcast, Louis-Dreyfus also shared that there was “tons” of friction on the set of the show.
“It’s hard to do anything really well, and it takes a lot of work, and you’re going to butt heads,” she said.
During its run, “Seinfeld” became a smash hit, winning 10 Emmy awards and three Golden Globes among many other awards. Louis-Dreyfus also earned an Emmy award for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy in 1996 and a Golden Globe in 1994 for best supporting actress while on the show.
While she enjoyed a great deal of success in her role as Elaine, Louis-Dreyfus has been open about how difficult it was to enter motherhood at the time. And yet, she once told television host and cook Ina Garten that the experience was “fabulous.”
“I was becoming very famous at at this time, it really kept all of that in perspective,” Louis-Dreyfus told Garten on an episode of show “Be My Guest.”
She also said that as time went on, the show didn’t do much to hide her pregnancies.
“The first go round, I stood behind things. I carried boxes,” she told Garten. “By the time I was pregnant the second time, nobody cared, and it was like it wasn’t happening.”
