Prince Harry has been accused of “clutching at straws” with his latest update. The 41-year-old Duke is reportedly planning to produce a TV film dedicated to his mother, Princess Diana, having already reached out to some of her friends and associates. The update was revealed by Daily Mail Senior Editor-at-Large and royal reporter Richard Kay, who said the film will occupy a lot of Harry’s headspace in the coming months.
“I am told that one of the reasons Harry’s here is to make a television film, his own film, about his mother,” Kay revealed. It comes as the Royal Family gear up to mark the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death next year. Harry was just 12 years old when his mother died in a car crash in Paris. The Royal Family is reportedly set to host a special event in memory of Diana on her 30th anniversary, and it could be the time when William and Harry finally reunite after years of estrangement.
However, Harry apparently has his own plans in the works to mark his mother’s anniversary. “Let’s not forget who Harry spent time with when he was here in July, it was Diana’s family at Althorp,” Kay added.
The move has already attracted criticism from royal commentators. Journalist Peter Cadwell made an appearance on TalkTV to speak about the prospect of Harry producing such a film.
He called the move “clutching at straws” for Harry, saying there is somewhat of a “Diana fatigue.”
“He still is clutching at straws, I think, to some extent, to always try to make him seem viable and relevant,” he said.
“And his mother defines him. And yes, she had a huge impact, but she wasn’t the paragon of virtue that everybody paints her out to be.”
He said that people will likely be queuing to see such a film, and that Harry “can see there will be some commercial value”.
